The first two days back from holidays the year nines had leadership days. The first day our year level coordinator Mr. K taught us about his background, culture which is Maori, he also taught us about their beliefs, gods, music and traditions. Mr. K told us stories passed down from his family I found them interesting because they are different to Australians beliefs.
The second day two people Mickey and Sandy, from Camp Awakenings came and spoke to us about a few different topics. They first got everybody to judge them, and box by saying rude comments after we judged them on our first encounter it was a different result to the end of the day hearing their life changing experiences. I really got something out of their program, it taught me not to box people – boxing people is judging then putting a label on them. Mickey and Sandy also got us to do other activities, there was a game with a rope and you had to separate from your partner it was very challenging and nobody could figure it out so they told us in the end, also they made us stereotype songs and the people who would listen to them.
